Description

  • The UNDP internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP’s work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles, and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP
  • The objective of the internship: Support the environment team on green energy topics
  • The Green Energy Assistant will report directly to the Renewable Energy Specialist within the Environment and Climate Change Mitigation team and more generally to the Head of Unit for Environment and Climate Change Mitigation. The Renewable Energy Assistant will also work in close collaboration with the other team members, as well as other Operations, Programme and projects staff in the CO

Duties

  • Support the Environment team on renewable energy data collection and strategy definition, focusing on the following topics:
  • Renewable energy use in telecom applications – map existing generators vs. solar systems to power telecom towers; promote renewable energy use in the telecom industry
  • Biomass – review existing types of biomass available for energy production in the country; assess the most cost-effective models
  • Green building standards/energy efficiency – review existing legislation and initiatives
  • Internet access – assess main root causes for low internet access in the country
  • Besides the above, the Green Energy Assistant will also:
  • Support the team with on-going studies and projects
  • Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing

Impact of Results

  • The key results will fuel the definition of UNDP’s strategy in renewable energy as well as contribute to the sectoral strategic dialogue, with the possibility to lead to the definition of future projects. Accurate analysis and presentation of information, thoroughly researched and fully documented work strengthens the capacity of the office and facilitates subsequent action by the supervisor. The incumbent’s own initiative is decisive in the results of work and timely finalization

Requisites

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Business or Public Administration or related social sciences
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in engineering, economics or related fields
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation
  • No experience required
  • Fluency in Portuguese and good working knowledge of English is required

Conditions Of Internship

  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan

  • Interns are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity
